I know this isn't a NY Times article but I found it interesting so I'm just going with it. You can find CBC news article here.
Apparently Cornell University is experimenting with 3D printing food materials as decoration on high-end plates. It looks like the technology is still pretty raw because the actual prints look pretty messy. They are working on advancements and I'm sure they will come out with some impressive stuff soon. In the mean time, it's just really neat to see how the RP technology is branching out.
